Tessa Liebman

As a forever New Yorker and longtime professional chef with an art practice built on sensing, Tessa Liebman explores concepts and translates stories from various senses and media to one she knows well as a chef (food and drink). Alongside producing and developing menus and events for clients such as Guerilla Science and BYREDO she is exploring multidisciplinary and multisensory possibilities to develop work that explores sociological and historical phenomena through our immediate bodily perceptions.

She spent time developing her project Scents of Plates at Shell House Arts and Marble House Projects in 2019. The project was included in the Institute of Art & Olfaction's Experimental Scent Summit in 2019 and the Digital Scent Festival 2020 as well as the book The Essence--Discovering the World of Scent, Perfume and Fragrance published by Gestalten in 2019. During the pandemic she developed a series of at-home sensory experience kits and continues to explore and encourage people to engage with their senses in a deeper way, finding rich content beyond their screens and digital devices.
