The Vault

Own a Perfume Formula Created by Christophe Laudamiel

The Vault is a permanent installation by the visionary Master Perfumer Christophe Laudamiel. It lays bare the essence of scent creation by making finished fragrance formulas accessible to collectors looking for the next unique art piece, entrepreneurs looking for their next market success, connoisseurs, fans, and museums.

In order to experience some of them, a rotating selection (eleven at a time) are available for one-of-a-kind immersive experience inside The Vault at Olfactory Art Keller in NYC. Interested parties should consider these formulas as operating under a Creative Commons license that allows the owner to exclusively use, distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the formula in any medium or format, even for commercial purposes, so long as credit is given to the creator.

Art collectors, fragrance brands, “nosy” academics, scent enthusiasts, and perhaps aspiring perfumers alike will gain invaluable ownership rights to these authentic formulas, which offer a rare glimpse into the creative process of a Master Perfumer, unfiltered. The Vault is an opportunity to face the true complexity of scent creation through tangible expressions of artistic vision, perfect for personal enjoyment, investment, exhibition, market launch or study. This project challenges thousands of year old perceptions about fragrance accessibility and celebrates the permanent possibilities of olfactory art. By acquiring a formula, you are investing in the preservation and perpetuity of olfactory art.

All formulas are "finished" formulas with well-developed scent profiles. Nothing awkward from the artist or based on simple accords. All humanly and manually mental: no AI was involved in the creation of these formulas (2009-2022).

See disclaimer below for more information

$600 to $1,000: Foundational Formulas and Opportunities-Made-Intentionally-Accessible. Think of these as offering key insights into specific scent families, ingredient interactions, or unique construction techniques and, bien sûr, emotions. Though some could be utilized for further market products, their primary value lies in the concentrated knowledge and artistry they embody – akin to dissecting a perfume to understand their underlying structure and the perfumer's intent.

$2,000: Market-Viable Fine or Artistic Fragrance Formulas. These formulas possess a higher degree of complexity, originality, and balance, making them directly applicable as the core of a fine fragrance, artistic perfumed product or a scent sculpture, intended for larger exhibitions and markets.

$2,000-$10,000: Near or On-Market Formulas. These formulas have either been previously on the market or developed to a major market- or exhibition-ready stage. The pricing reflects not just the formula itself, but also a significant creative fee for the extensive development, logistics and refinement invested. Providing actual formulas at this stage is rare due to the inherent value, the cultural and artistic value and their potential for immediate market re-application. Disclaimer: final market implementations are subject to latest regulatory guidelines.

We must emphasize the intricate nature of fragrance formulation. Approaching a formula with preconceived notions, especially without prior experience or knowledge of the ingredients, can be misleading. Even seasoned perfumers cannot accurately predict the scent of an unfamiliar formula. The sheer complexity of perfume composition, the precise designations of ingredient qualities, with trillions of possible combinations, underscore the artistry and expertise involved.

The Vault’s formulas are unique. Ingredient quantities (grams, kilos, pounds, tons, as you wish, they are all proportionate anyway) are precise and ingredient names use industry-standard terminology. Oil samples are provided "as-is", directly from the perfumery lab, fridges or archives. They are several years old but well preserved. Many of the featured oils have been argonized, ensuring their longevity. We do not sell heavily oxidized samples. Oils are generally pure unless otherwise stated. The oils are not for topical application and are not certified for the latest standards of consumer product use. Olfactory Art Keller and the artist assume no liability for the use, preservation, or misuse of the oil samples.

Please note that formulas do not include explanations of the creative process or composition. The artist is not available to provide individual formula consultations unless specified. The price paid is for the formula. In addition, the one remaining sample is provided as a means to experience the formula and symbol of ownership. Purchase also includes one-of-one, signed, custom prints of the formula and the accompanying visual artwork. The visual artwork was not the inspiration for the formula but an afterthought for this exhibition.
